Graphite Artist - The Netherlands
Sharon van Voorst is a Dutch artist working with graphite. In her work she explores human expression, inner tension and the psychological layers of identity.
Her drawings emerge from observation, emotional experience and subtle body language. Through contrast, composition and disruption within the image, feelings become visible that often remain beneath the surface.
Alongside independent works, she also creates graphite portrait commissions.
Artist Statement
The human gaze is central to the work: the moment in which emotion, tension and awareness become visible in the face. The Inner Layers series explores the tension between inner experience and outward expression, approaching identity as something made of multiple layers.
Graphite is an important medium in this process because it allows maximum nuance and emotional tension to become visible through minimal means.
Working Method
The work develops slowly through observation, detail and the gradual build-up of graphite. Expression, body language and small disruptions within a face play an important role in both independent work and portrait commissions.
Currently working on:
- Inner Layers
- Open call: Embracing Our Differences
- New graphite works and portrait commissions
